It is a tradition that every time the John Doe Movement records a new album, we have to redo one of our old songs. I don’t know why we do this, but we’ve done it with every album we’ve ever made. Perhaps it’s a way for us to gauge how far we’ve come, or maybe we fall madly in love with certain songs and never want to let them go. I don’t know.

The redo for this album is none other than Gluing Bugs Together. We didn’t even have to think about it too much, we both just knew this was the obvious choice. This song is the obvious jewel of the last album. Matt wrote and played all the stringed instruments, the incredible Paul Starr put down a smoking drum beat and I did vocals. This was a favorite amongst my friends, so we decided this is the song that is too good to let go.

Tonight we invited Nick over to learn the original acoustic guitar pattern and ended up recording the whole song. The first obstacle was the lack of Paul on the drums. This is a hole in the song that won’t be filled. However, the awesome skill of Nick, and the fact that we were properly tuned to each other this time, really makes this song shine out. I think all the people that have heard and loved the old one will be happily surprised, and the people that have never heard the old one are in for a treat.

The old one had a guitar solo by Matt that really pulled you in. He didn’t solo like a guitarist because he isn’t a guitarist. This gave the solo a repetitive trance like effect that pulled people in. Nick keeps this effect, but his technical guitar skill make it all the better.

All that’s left are some fine tuning and effects on my vocals and this thing is in the bag. I must say this is the most successful redo of old material Matt and I have ever done. I hope the record keeps coming along like it has been!

WOW

I listened to all the tracks. I love it. I was telling Beau about it last night. I will get it setup so I can burn some disks. Great job everyone involved.
